RESUMEN

Background Bibliometrics refer to documents and citation-based measures that measure different aspects of performance of a journal, including impact, output and prestige. Objective The aim of this study was to collect bibliometric data of various Indian dermatology journals as well as Indian journals from other disciplines, in order to compare relative performances. Methods Journal metrics pertaining to various Indian journals, both from dermatology [Indian Journal of Dermatology, Venereology and Leprology (IJDVL), Indian Journal of Dermatology (IJD), Indian Dermatology Online Journal, Indian Journal of Pediatric Dermatology and International Journal of Trichology] and other disciplines [Indian Journal of Medical Research (IJMR), Indian Journal of Pediatrics (IJP), Indian Journal of Ophthalmology and Indian Journal of Pharmacology] were sought. Data pertaining to the following 8 metrics during the year 2021 was collected: Journal Impact factor, SCImago Journal Rank, h5-index, Eigenfactor score and normalized Eigenfactor Score, Journal Citation Indicator, Scimago Journal and Country Rank H-index, CiteScore and Source Normalized Impact per Paper. Results Among Indian dermatology journals, for the year 2021, IJDVL had the highest impact factor (2.217) and h-index (48). IJD led in terms of prestige metrics such as SCImago Journal Rank (0.403), Eigenfactor score (0.00231) and Source Normalized Impact per Paper (1.132). IJDVL underperformed with respect to an average dermatology journal on all three prestige metrics. Among selected journals from other disciplines, two (IJMR and IJP) had impact factor exceeding five, despite lagging behind IJDVL two years ago. Most had normalized scores exceeding 1, indicating better performance than an average journal from their respective fields. Limitations Non-inclusion of altmetrics related data Conclusion IJDVL is one of the leading Indian journals in the field of dermatology, followed closely by IJD. A rise in IJDVL influence is evident over the past decade, as evident by various metrics. However, the progress still trails behind the average of global dermatology journals as evident by the field-normalized journal metrics, indicating potential for further growth of journal influence.

RESUMEN

In recent years, after the essential elimination of leprosy (the prevalence of which is <1/100,000), the trends, research hotpots, and frontiers of leprosy research are not clear. This study provides a detailed overview of leprosy in terms of papers, journal, language, year, citations, h-index, author keywords, institution, and country through bibliometrics. The results are as follows: (1) The publication rate has increased in recent years, and 8892 papers were obtained. Most of the publications are in English, and the subject categories are mainly focused on "Dermatology." The "leprosy review" published the most significant number of papers on leprosy, followed by "Plos Neglected Tropical Disease" and "International Journal of Leprosy and Other Mycobacterial Diseases." (2) Leprosy-related research was contributed to by 24,672 authors, and the ten authors with the most significant number of publications were identified. (3) The University of London (including the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine) has the highest h-index, and Fundacao Oswaldo Cruz is the most productive institution. (4) Brazil, India, the United States, the United Kingdom, and the Netherlands are the most productive countries, and the collaborative network reveals that they have established close cooperation with other countries. France has the highest average number of citations. (5) The keyword co-occurrence network identifies five highly relevant clusters representing topical issues in leprosy research (public health, leprosy vaccine, immune mechanisms, treatment, and genomics research). Overall, these results provide valuable insights for scholars, research institutions, and policymakers to better understand developments in the field of leprosy.

Scientific collaboration between researchers, institutions and countries has aroused the interest of Information Science scholars who want to know the relationships established between the actors involved, the dynamics and evolution of social standards in scientific communication. Through bibliometric analysis, this study aims to visualize the network of scientific collaboration between the discursive community that conducts research on leprosy in Brazil through institutional co-authoring relationships. Collaboration characteristics were studied based on the co-authorship of 498 articles indexed in the Web of Science database in the period 2016-2020. The analyzes reveal that a significant part of the articles was published by a small group of institutions and that, despite the greater number, the universities have more widely distributed publications and don't occupy the centrality of the network, which is dominated by research institutes, which concentrate a large number of publications in a few units.

This study analyzed the literature related to leprosy in Brazil, represented by the publication of scientific papers indexed in the Web of Science scientific database from 2000 to 2019. Through bibliometric analysis, the authors sought to delineate an overview of scientific productions on the topic, identifying the authors, the historical evolution of the number of productions, the areas of research that had most publications, the types of articles published and which funding agencies are involved in publications related to the topic. The documentary corpus consisted of 376 complete articles, which demonstrated an intensification in the production of studies on leprosy in recent years, especially in the area of Tropical Medicine, with a predominance of funding from Brazilian agencies, and whose largest source of publications is an international scientific journal dedicated to the study of neglected tropical diseases. It can be concluded that the interest in the study of the topic has increased over the years, but among the topics evidenced by the analysis undertaken, public policies for the control and elimination of the disease were incipient. It also reveals the need for greater scientific input on the topic stimulated by both government agencies and educational and research institutions, which can leverage reflections aimed at the implementation of effective political guidelines for the control and elimination of the disease.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To analyze the concept of patient discharge in leprosy. METHODS: Theoretical study guided in the methodological framework of concept analysis. A bibliographical survey was held from December 2015 to January 2016 using the following bases: SCOPUS, CINAHL, PubMed, LILACS, SCIELO and BDENF, by use of the descriptors "Leprosy" and "Patient Discharge", resulting in 13 studies. RESULTS: The following were identified as possible uses for the concept: discharge by cure, drug use discharge, bacteriological discharge and post-discharge. The attributes defined were completion of multidrug therapy, completion of multidrug therapy for paucibacillary leprosy, completion of multidrug therapy for multibacillary leprosy and cure from leprosy. The presence of an M. leprae infection, symptoms present in skin and peripheral nerves, diagnosis and treatment and leprosy reactions were identified as antecedents. Consequents were exclusion from the active leprosy record and continuity of health care. One case model and one opposing case were presented. CONCLUSIONS: The analysis broadened the concept "discharge in leprosy", providing other meanings than the clinical definition of multidrug therapy.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: This study designed and applied accessible yet systematic methods to generate baseline information about the patterns and structure of Canada's neglected tropical disease (NTD) research network; a network that, until recently, was formed and functioned on the periphery of strategic Canadian research funding. METHODOLOGY: MULTIPLE METHODS WERE USED TO CONDUCT THIS STUDY, INCLUDING: (1) a systematic bibliometric procedure to capture archival NTD publications and co-authorship data; (2) a country-level "core-periphery" network analysis to measure and map the structure of Canada's NTD co-authorship network including its size, density, cliques, and centralization; and (3) a statistical analysis to test the correlation between the position of countries in Canada's NTD network ("k-core measure") and the quantity and quality of research produced. PRINCIPAL FINDINGS: Over the past sixty years (1950-2010), Canadian researchers have contributed to 1,079 NTD publications, specializing in Leishmania, African sleeping sickness, and leprosy. Of this work, 70% of all first authors and co-authors (n = 4,145) have been Canadian. Since the 1990s, however, a network of international co-authorship activity has been emerging, with representation of researchers from 62 different countries; largely researchers from OECD countries (e.g. United States and United Kingdom) and some non-OECD countries (e.g. Brazil and Iran). Canada has a core-periphery NTD international research structure, with a densely connected group of OECD countries and some African nations, such as Uganda and Kenya. Sitting predominantly on the periphery of this research network is a cluster of 16 non-OECD nations that fall within the lowest GDP percentile of the network. CONCLUSION/SIGNIFICANCE: The publication specialties, composition, and position of NTD researchers within Canada's NTD country network provide evidence that while Canadian researchers currently remain the overall gatekeepers of the NTD research they generate; there is opportunity to leverage existing research collaborations and help advance regions and NTD areas that are currently under-developed.

RESUMEN

Critical analysis of the Latin American bibliographical production over the last 10 years regarding the adherence/non-adherence to treatment of people with chronic health problems: leprosy, tuberculosis, hypertension, diabetes and AIDS. Thirty six articles were analyzed identifying the variables: year of publication, publication area and kind of study. Most of the articles (27) were produced by professionals of the medical area, in epidemiological studies, and of the nursing area (7) in qualitative and quanti-qualitative studies. The scientific production on the subject increased until 2002, when it began to drop. The authors repeatedly defended the idea that the role of the patient is to follow the recommendations of the health professional and that the patient is free to follow or not the treatment, the professional however being exempt from the responsibility for the consequences of this decision. The greater part of factors pointed out by the authors as contributing to non-adherence relates to the patient, showing that the major responsibility for the adherence / non-adherence to treatment is conferred upon him. The measures the authors indicate for solving the problem point to responsibility of professionals, health services, governments and teaching institutions.

Some 19 201 leprosy-related articles were identified in the Medline database for the period 1950-2007. These were analysed for distribution and evolution of a number of variables: publication years, languages, document types, journals, authors, major aspects and countries involved, and author addresses. Next to a number of tables presenting the actual results, some noteworthy trends and possible pitfalls in the interpretation of these results are discussed. The analysis shows that the number of leprosy-related articles peaked in the 1980s and has been in decline ever since, as well in absolute as in relative numbers. Coverage of non-English language literature has decreased far more strongly than that of English language articles. The scholarly input of a number of countries where the leprosy burden is the highest, such as India and Brazil, is clearly visible in the distribution of journals, authors, and for some, language, but this is certainly not the case for all countries afflicted.

RESUMEN

Selections of most important journals in the field of tropical medicine have previously been identified with the help of resources such as bibliographical and citation databases. This article uses ISI's Journal Citation Reports (JSR) for 2002 to analyse the citation characteristics of the Tropical Medicine category. According to these data, this small but diverse group of 12 journals bestows some 40% more citations than it receives. Its six typical core journals tend to cite one another heavily, but they also refer a lot to multidisciplinary science and general medicine journals, and to infectious diseases and parasitology journals. Looking at the sources from which JCR's tropical medicine journals derive their citations, it is clear that in this reverse direction, the specialty's literature is still more concentrated. Apart from the typical core, this JCR category also contains a number of journals with more idiosyncratic citing patterns, focused on specialties such as paediatrics, a single disease (leprosy) and a representative of Latin American and Francophone biomedical science each. Implications of concentrated citedness and language biases are discussed briefly. This paper features a selection of bibliometric parameters relating to the tropical medicine journals and lists of the 80 journals most citing and cited by them.
